Born in Dalian, China, Yuxiao Mu is an interdisciplinary artist and educator currently based in Kansas City, Missouri, where she serves as a Visiting Assistant Professor (AICAD Fellow) at the Kansas City Art Institute. Mu’s practice is guided by conceptual explorations of memory, emotion, and storytelling, spanning analog and digital photography, printmaking, and embroidery. The distance between countries, generations, languages, and ongoing dialogue with her family in China, continuously structure her way of seeing that shape her artworks. Mu holds an MFA in Photography from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design and a BFA in Photography from the LuXun Academy of Fine Arts in China. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including in Rome, Boston, and Minneapolis, and featured in publications such as Visual Atelier 8, Our Culture Magazine, and Float Magazine.
